MISSION AND OVERVIEW
Founded in 1955, South Shore Art Center (SSAC) is a 501c3 cultural organization with a mission to enrich communities south of Boston, MA by engaging artists and by fostering an understanding and appreciation of the visual arts through exhibitions and education. We work tirelessly to meet this mission by: curating thought-provoking exhibitions; connecting individuals with arts learning geared to every stage on the artistic journey; offering low-cost studio space for independent artmaking; stewarding the next generation of artists and audiences with our free Artist-in-Residence program for schoolchildren and our intensive Arts Stars program for teens; and staging a three-day arts festival every Spring.
More than 1,000 members strong, SSAC has grown to become a key anchor for the region’s vibrant and thriving art community, each year welcoming more than 20,000 individuals to exciting visual arts experiences held in our facility and at satellite sites.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Bookkeeper / Admisinstrative Assistant
Up to 20 hours per week
The Bookkeeper / Administrative Assistant at South Shore Art Center will work closely with and report directly to the Executive Director on financial recording and reporting for this dynamic arts center, which serves communities south of Boston. This is a part-time position (up to 20 hours per week)
Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping & Financial Support:
• Manages accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Maintains vendor files
• Records, categorizes and reconciles financial transactions
• Maintains annual insurance policies and service contracts
• Prepares biweekly payroll, tracks employee time-off, and maintains personnel files
• Manages acknowledgment and tracking of donor contributions
Administrative & Operational Support:
• Greets students and visitors to the Art Center
• Orders and oversees office and class supplies
• Assists with student registration, gallery receptions
• Assists Executive Director in committee meeting preparations, special events, miscellaneous projects and annual South Shore Arts Festival, as directed
Qualifications:
• Associates degree or comparable work experience
• Detail-oriented with exceptional personal organization skills
• Accounting experience and familiarity with Quickbooks
• Experience with Microsoft Suite: Excel, Word and Access
• Strong work ethic and comfortable in a small, fast-paced, team-oriented work environment
• Belief in and passion for the role of art and design in education and career development, and demonstrated commitment to South Shore Art Center's mission
Hours / Compensation:
$22-$24/hour for up to 20 hours per week
